Saudi Arabia will not work against interests, assures Pakistan’s Arab leadership

According to Foreign Office sources, the Prime Minister has informed Malaysia and Turkey of his decision. He met with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in Geneva and discussed this with Mahathir Mohamed on the telephone last night. According to officials, Pakistan will talk to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia after the summit and our Muslim Ummah is trying not to divide.

According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan was not attending the summit to consolidate the Muslim Ummah, Muslim countries Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates objected to the conference as they viewed the Kuala Lumpur summit as a parallel block to the OIC.

The conference is being hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammed, who has publicly expressed that the OIC has failed to protect the interests of the Muslim Umma, so a new alliance could prove to be an alternative to the OIC. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia believes that such a new Islamic block could undermine Saudi Arabia’s role in the Muslim world. In that context, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership has made several visits to Saudi Arabia.
