Mahathir Mohamad and his allies
He was completing two years as prime minister in May 2020 but insisted he was working on some important reforms and would resign by November 2020. Disagreements between Mahathir Muhammad and his allies were ongoing and many rumors were circulating.
According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, this resignation has been sent to the King of Malaysia at around 1pm local time today.
Premature resignation of Mahathir Muhammad
Political analysts say the premature resignation of Mahathir Muhammad is the result of a serious “political effort”, but it is unclear whether the next prime minister will be one of his allies or new elections will be held for that purpose.
It should be noted that when Mahathir Muhammad became the Prime Minister of Malaysia for the second time in 2018, he was 92 years old, thus becoming the world’s oldest Prime Minister.
